Urgent course of the legislative procedure

According to the Constitution the Council of Ministers may decide to classify a bill prepared by it as urgent which means that in relation to such a bill the legislative procedure will be accelerated. In practice this denotes that the Sejm committees will be obliged to accomplish their work on the bill within a period of up to 30 days; the transgression of this time limit does not bear any legal results. The Constitution does not provide for a fixed time limit within which the Sejm would be obliged to adopt a particular bill, even in urgent legislative procedure. Constitutional provisions shorten the period during which the Senate should examine a statute which was adopted in accordance with the accelerated procedure (14 days) and the time limit within which the President is to sign such statute (7 days).
